(EliteLikeYou) Last night, I watched the 2022 Women in Music Billboard Awards. I don’t usually like watching award shows with everything that is going on in the world, but unlike your typical award show, this one had a different message. This one was refreshingly unique!

Full disclosure, this is my first time watching this awards show.

This award show had so much more! The energy was of sisterhood and support. It was about real women honoring other women through their achievements.

H.E.R.

It was amazing to see H.E.R. thank her mother for being her biggest fan. She received the Billboard’s Impact Award. In her (no pun intended) acceptance speech, she discussed her mother being pregnant and carrying her equipment to various shows, to help support her daughter’s dream. What an amazingly strong mother! See her thank her mom HERE.

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo who was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year discussed her appreciation of the many young women who currently have a dream as she did, to be a singer-songwriter. She wanted them to always follow their dreams.

Olivia’s  ALL women band was also amazing! Check out her performance HERE.

Bonnie Rait

Bonnie Rait was presented with the icon award! She began her speech by thanking women in all genres of music and appreciating their efforts (See HERE). Bonnie also thanked all the women in the industry and hoped for equity. She is an incredible woman and it was wonderful she was honored.

Who Else Deserves an Award?

I feel we need more empowering woman-centered displays like this in the world. Not just saved for women’s history month.

How can women become even more visible in the media and beyond? Can our talents and achievements shine no matter what our occupation is?

As much as I loved this show, I was thinking about all our female doctors, nurses, caretakers, and truck drivers who kept this country moving for the past 3 years. They stood strong during a pandemic. Will they ever see the accolades and presentations these singers and songwriters receive?

What can we do as a collective society to make this happen? Should it start with YOU?

Should it start with ME?

Let’s move forward by supporting ALL women in their goals to be Elite!
