Many women consider their hair to be a crown on the top of their heads. If your hair is thinning, it can be one of the scariest things you could experience as a woman, no matter your age. If you are losing your hair, I will discuss the reason why this may be happening and hair loss tips to help you regrow it.

Hair loss in your 20’s, 30’s, or 40’s?!

While hair loss can be difficult for men, they can always shave it off and look amazing. It does not work that way for most women.

Harsh Chemicals, My Story

As someone who was subjected to very strong chemical hair relaxers since the age of 9, I know firsthand what extremely harsh chemicals can do to your scalp and your hair.

My hair began thinning over time and became extremely dry, brittle, and broken.

Eventually, I decided to give up the chemicals and go natural and try to salvage the damage I had done for so many years.

However, going natural and cutting back on harsh chemicals did not solve all my problems. I had to start re-nourishing my scalp and caring for my hair every day.

If you suffer from thinning hair, below are some common reasons why you may be experiencing it.

What Could Be Causing Your Hair Loss?

  • Stress– Stress-induced hair loss is called telogen effluvium. Hair loss due to stress can be caused by a single event such as a breakup, divorce, or the death of a loved one. It can also be caused by long-term stress such as working a very stressful job. Stress affects the phases of growth hair growth and you will notice all over-thinning across your entire head growth.
  • Tension/Traction Alopecia- Is caused by putting excessive tension on the scalp. Extremely tight hairstyles such as pony tales, hair extensions, hair relaxers, or the new t Tok craze the “ Clean Girl” look where girls slick their hair back with gel/hair spray and pull it back tightly. If this is done on a continuous basis hair loss can occur due to continued stress on the scalp.
  • Vitamin Deficiency- Vitamin Deficiencies have been known to affect hair growth. When the body does not have the nutrients it needs, it will stop some bodily functions to focus on more important functions in the body.
  • Hormonal Changes- Pregnancy and menopause can cause your hormones to fluctuate which can cause hair loss issues.
