Anywhere you look- Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube, and Twitter, breathwork is the new health craze everyone swears by. But is Breathwork right for you?
For those of us who are new to this, Breathwork is any type of breathing exercise people perform to improve their mental health, spirituality, and physical well-being. In order for breathwork to WORK (lol), you have to change your breathing patterns to obtain the most benefit. It is almost like yoga but the focus is on breathing.
I decided to try this, and I downloaded the app Breathwrk . They offer a paid version, but I went with the free app to try it out.
I focused on specific types of breathing techniques for about 2 weeks, and I honestly feel like it is working! I use it when I wake up and when I go to bed.
My main issues were having energy when getting out of bed and settling my mind down to get to sleep. I am sure many of you may be experiencing the same issues.
When I wake up, I do a 1 minute 20-second breathing exercise. You begin by breathing in and out, and there is an adorable cartoon monkey who helps you through the process. They also provide calming sounds that will also help follow the steps easily.
Before bed, I also use the app to help me calm myself down and go to sleep. The breathing exercise is the same, but the rhythm and the speed of breathing are different, you may also have to hold your breath for a few seconds. Seriously, I fall asleep within a few minutes!!!
Celebrities are also enjoying the benefits of breathwork check out this article HERE! Another interesting article can be found HERE. Enjoy!
Joe Rogan has also discussed breathwork. Check out this podcast where he had 1.2 million views!
Besides, helping me to fall asleep and wake up with more energy, I was curious about other benefits breathwork, was able to provide.
Below Are 4 Ways Breathwork Can Help You Breathe easier:
- Anxiety and Stress- many people who suffer from anxiety and stress may be breathing shallow all day and not realize it. Breathwork can help more oxygen reach the brain and help you feel more calm and relaxed.
- Anger- Breathwork techniques can help you calm your body when angry. You are allowing more oxygen to reach your brain, to help you make better decisions during that bout of anger and rage.
- Improved Digestion- Deep breathing increases the flow of blood throughout the body, which can reduce bloating and gas. If you are less stressed due to deep breathing, cortisol levels will also be reduced, which has the added benefit of reducing belly fat.
- Lower Blood Pressure- Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic system, which lowers the heart rate, lowers your blood pressure, and calms the body. Scientific studies have been conducted on this and can be found here.
There are so many wonderful benefits that can be obtained by just BREATHING. Why not give it a try?
