(EliteLikeYou) Are you completely overwhelmed by the news coverage on the latest Covid 19 variant- Omicron? Has the “Omicron Anxiety” have you completely at wits end? Maybe, the next 5 tips can help you cope with the stress.
Just a few months ago, the birds were singing, the sun was shining and everything was right with the world. Covid case numbers were down, everyone was going out and attending events, and in many places mask mandates were canceled.
It looked like we could all see the light at the end of the tunnel and Covid-19 was in the rearview mirror.
Fast forward to December/January 2022, and there seems to be a feeling of deja vu.
There is a feeling of fear. As if the nightmare of 2020 and 2021 was starting all over again, and there was nothing we can do about it.
Well, that is WRONG!
Even though you cannot control the virus, you do have control over yourself!
Below are 5 ways that can help you cope with the uncertainty of Omicron:
Step 1: Turn Off The Boob Tube
Watching the news can be overwhelming and traumatic. If you can’t cut it out altogether, choose a 30-minute time slot where you can watch the news and know what is going on in the world, without getting depressed or stressed. When you are unaware of all the tragedies in the world and focus on YOUR world a little bit, you will see all the anxiety and fear start to dissipate.
Step 2: Talk To Someone
Sometimes we just need to talk to someone to make sense of things and to help us get out of our own heads. If your friends and family won’t help, seek help from a therapist. They are impartial to any specific point of view and are just there to help you navigate through a difficult time. No, therapy does not need to be forever, it is just to get through a difficult challenge in your life. Many therapists now offer virtual sessions where you can discuss how you feel in the comfort of your own home!
Step 3: Find a Hobby That Makes You Feel Alive
Did you have a hobby that you really enjoyed and have not done in a while? If so, why don’t you give it a shot again, or find a new one? If you are more comfortable being outdoors, try bird watching or hiking. You can also learn a new skill. We are so fortunate to have YouTube, you can literally learn to do anything in a matter of a few weeks. This will help keep you occupied doing something you love, and avoid the constant anxiety-producing self-talk.
Step 4: Check With Your Doc
If you have suffered from any medical issues or vitamin deficiencies in the past, this is a good time to get a good physical and make sure you are on the up and up. If you don’t have a primary care physician get a good one. Instead of wondering if you are susceptible to a disease, it’s best to focus on the strength of your body and its ability to fight any foreign invader that comes your way.
Step 5: Follow the Science
There is a lot of noise coming from pseudo scientists, like family members, friends, and colleagues, it can be hard to determine what the science is saying and what’s just gossip. Go online and search for credible scientific journals which discuss the virus in detail and studies to really explain what this variant is. REAL facts will help you face reality with credible information and knowledge.
This has been a difficult time for all of us, but I hope these 5 tips will help you feel better during these challenging times and beat the Omicron Anxiety for good!
